Cory,
I'll add to the flurry of activity on your posting...
My understanding is that 'exec gnome-session' should be the only entry
in your .xinitrc (you could also have plain-old 'gnome-session'). There
should be no need for an enlightenment entry. If this fails, try the
suggestion of one of our other user's to delete or empty the ~/.gnome
directory (while outside of X), and then restart X. E should start
automatically.
