So that means you grabed atleast gettext glib gtk+ orbit etc?

What's the error? Please post it to the list. Gnome compiles well on
AlphaLinux and on DU with those fabeled C compilers of lore you should
have no problems once you  meet the dependances. Also post what you
picked up to see if ya missed something. BTW Enlightenment screams on
Alpha:).
