I also have installed both of them, but invoking gcc or cc means invoking egcs.
Try gcc --version. It should say something like 'egcs-2.91.60'.
Under /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux there are two different hierarchies:
2.7.2.3/ (with an Object.h in 2.7.2.3/include/objc) and
egcs-2.91.60/ (with an Object.h in egcs-2.91.60/include/objc)
But obviously, as I never encountered any problems, they don't conflict.
I'm attaching my ld.so.conf. Maybe it helps.
