   I'd like to add my voice to this as a polite request, for the many
   current and future laptop users of Linux and Gnome.  I know there are
   laptops out there that can support resolutions higher than 800x600.  
   However, it would be nice if apps were designed such that they had
   800x600 in mind to begin with, or request the screen dimensions and
   scale themselves accordingly.


I agree with the scaling - it's essential.  Especially for people who
scale up - the fonts etc should adjust to being run at 1600x1200
rather than 800x600.

Easier said than done, I realize, but this should be a part of gtk or
gnome.
