Gmc's Preferences block

I noticed that selecting Preferences in gmc blocks all normal
operation. There is no real reason for this (although I can see how
this can improve stability, but there are other solutions for that).

Is this a recent bug of gmc or has it always been like this? Other
gnome applications don't have this behaviour (yet?).
