I still find myself running 'mc' the majority of the time under GNOME
also. I've looked at and played with 'gmc' but keep finding myself going
back to 'mc'.
In all I guess I'm not much of a GUI file-manager type and generally
use a 'term window' the majority of the time. About the only GUI file
manager I've really liked and use regularly is 'FM2' on my OS/2 box. Its
pretty much a 'everything but the kitchen sink' approach but has some
nice features. It has a drive tree pane, but you can open multiple file
panes (it just keeps resizing/redrawing itself so they fit) and you can
drag & drop copy, move, compare, etc. between any of them. If I was to
write a file manager (if I knew how :-) 'FM2' would be something I'd
definitely use as a model.
