I think one of the major causes of the "slow Gnome startup" syndrome everyone
(including me) is suffering from is this output from /var/log/messages:
May 16 17:18:06 rorschach gnome-name-server[396]: starting
May 16 17:18:07 rorschach gnome-name-server[398]: starting
May 16 17:18:07 rorschach gnome-name-server[396]: name server starting
May 16 17:18:07 rorschach gnome-name-server[398]: name server was running on
display, exiting
I grep'ed for "gnome-name" on ~/.gnome/session and /usr/share/gnome/* and
couldn't find where gnome-name-server is started, or why it is started twice.
I'm using RH 6.0 with all the RPMs that came with it. It also happened when I
was using RH 5.2 with all the RPM versions (I tried'em all)... Anyone got a
clue about this, is this a know, fixed bug or what?
