Email clients

Hi! can anyone tell me why sometimes when I log into gnome from redhat
6.1, the bottom panel keeps refreshing?  The only way to get rid of it I
noticed was to reboot.  Has anyone encountered this?

ps I have been playing around with linux just recently.  can someone
recommend a good email client? -john
