I do suspect gdm2 for my sound problems, and possibly the one above. I haven't
had much of a chance to track it down yet, but that's the first thing I'm going
to change. I was using 2.0beta3 previously without problems. Maybe I'll just go
back to xdm for a bit. When I first tried to log in after installing beta4, it
did ask me what type of session (previous value was null), so I chose Gnome.
Just now I logged back in using Xsession (since I have a .gnomerc pointing to my
.Xclients, which starts gnome-session). But sound still doesn't work. I do hear
the tones though when esd starts up, so I suspect that gnome-session isn't
working quite right. Ugh.
