The relevant part of my .sawmillrc menu looks like:
(require 'gnome)
(require 'gnome-menu)
This makes it so that the middle button, when clicked on the desktop,
has an Applications menu, and this menu is just the Gnome menu. So
just add these two lines to the top of your .sawmillrc in your home
directory (create this file if it doesn't exist).
