If you recompiled gtk+ from tarballs and installed it to a different
location to where it was before (such as /usr/local), the gtk library may
not be able to find the theme engines (such as libpixmap.so which is used
by any pixmap theme). You need to install gtk+ and gtk-engines under the
same prefix.
