gnome-terminal ^U=flush ??

If I bring up a brand new xterm and a brand new gnome-terminal, their stty
settings are different.  The gnome-terminal automatically sets erase=^H
and flush=^U.  The flush statement is annoying when I try to clear a
password field while logging into my solaris box.  How can I disable this
permanently?
