can't start gedit

99 of 100 times i can't start gedit (latest) and this is the error
message:



# gedit

GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols
specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
Broken pipe



IF it starts (extremely rare) - i get this output first:

# gedit

GnomeUI-WARNING **: Could not open help topics file NULL

..

I ask about this in the gnome list cause i have seen that authentication
error sprout on various occations, in different versions.
Currently running Gnome October on (what once used to be) RH6.
gnorpm also used to have that authentication message but DID start OK -
the message seems to have vanished in Gnome October.

The "could not open help topis file NULL" is also a familiar line, when
i've exited the Gnome session usually, that one, amongts heaps of
others, scroll over the screen - can't see them all.

I'd appreciate hints on how to mend it all at least to the extent that i
can run gedit.
I can live with error messages as long as they don't hurt me ;)
