Why not just right click on it and select properties and then select show
day.  That is if it has one if not then...

Right click on the existing clock applet and select "remove from panel".
Then right click on the panel and select "add applet".
Then select "Utility" then select AfterStep Clock.
Right click the clock and select properties.
Then you can select one of the AS clock themes (I personally like the
Freeamp one).
