gnome-audio installed but no sound?

I have gnome-audio installed but when I try to listen to some gnome sounds
under the control center/sound events.. it tells me that I should have the
gnome-audio package installed to be able to listen to the .wav files. but I
have it installed without any errors. what could be wrong?
