If you go to irc.gimp.org
and choose #gnome you'll find lots of Gnomers

As for the files needed, go to Helixcode.com and follow their download
instructions, that will get you
everything you need.
If you just want the basics, gdk-pixbuf, gnome-core and gnome-applets should
be all you need.
