Fw: Compiling gnome-core-1.1.9

 I have two relatively serious problems with compiling:
 
 1. Durng config I get a essage saying that a recent enough version of
 gtkhtnl s not installed
 
  installed the latest cvs version  this afternon (I had to install
 gdk-pixbuf-0.7.0 to do it so I know) AND I CHECKED
 
 2. Make of gnome-core faled as follows
 
 make[2]: *** No rule to make target `gnome-applets.png', needed by
 `all-am'.  Stop.
 make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/gnome-core-1.1.8.1/pixmaps'
 make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
 make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/gnome-core-1.1.8.1'
 make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
 
 Ignore the version - the source was patched wth no errors to 1.1.9 this
aft
 
 So can anyone explain why it fails at making a target which should be 
part of the package
