The Debian GNU/Linux distribution is designed just for you. It
will give you the latest DEBs of all the best GNOME software,
downloaded and installed via an easy to use program, and will
also give you a simple program for updating your packages as new
ones become available.

Sorry, couldn't resist :). What i said is true, however. Better
yet, this works for all packages, not just GNOME, and Debian has
over 4000 packages. Just about anything you can think of is just
an 'apt-get install package' away.
