which source provides gnome-session?

I have built the base and core distribution from source for linux
2.0.36.

It did not provide gnome-session,  which I would have expected was part
of the core.

I used the latest source posted, following the instructions on:
http://www.gnome.org/start/installing/

gnome-core-1.2.1
control-center-1.2.1
gnome-applets-1.2.1
 mc-4.5.51

help appreciated!!
