Something that "is there" is better than something well designed, but
vapor.

If you're so keen about having an async gethostbyname() in the lib, you or
someone else who needs 50 gazillion nslookups per second is free to
implement it that way. When you're finished, I'm sure David will include
in the lib.

Hey, that's what free/open source software is all about -- if you want
something that's not there yet or something different, code it.

Most times it's better to get things going than to spend much time for a
quasi-'optimal in all future' solution. To quote Knuth: "Premature
optimization is the root of all evil." Or was e.g. Linux fully SMP clean 5
years ago? -- I think not.
