Gnome-core-1.2.1, LibPNG-1.0.7 and Solaris 8/x86

I tried upgrading my libpng from 1.0.6 to the latest 1.0.7
for my Solaris 8/X86 system.  When I start gnome, all I got
was text titles for all the icons.  Pretty weird.  I tracked
it down to panel, which is part of Gnome-core.  When I put
libpng-1.0.6 back, panel started working again.

I tried recompiling gnome-core-1.2.1 with libpng-1.0.7 figuring
something may need a new include or something.  Still no
success.  Only text labels for the icons.  I'm back to my
original gnome-core-1.2.1 and libpng-1.0.6.  I've reported
this as a bug, but not received a confirmation.  Has anyone
else seen this behavior?
