Slow gnome

Almost all my gnome apps open up sometime over 10 minutes after I tried
to open it. Even gnomecc behaves very weird. What could cause gnome apps
to take so long to load up? Even gnome-session takes forever. I read in
an archive that it might be a dns problem (?) or even esd? I'm running
the latest helixcode release on Solaris 2.7 (with a hacked version of
librep because helixcode f'd up their librep in the latest release).
