applet problems with 1.2.1

This is a wierd one.  Just upgraded two different boxes to 1.2.1.  I'm
running the clock applet 1.0 on both.  One works fine, the other appears
to overlay the numbers rather than replace them when the clock is
updated.  This same machine (a laptop), I've got the gnome battery power
applet 1.2.1 running and it does the same thing.

Anyone else seen this??  Suggestions?
