No, because you don't have a console at that point!  (At least, you
don't on Redhat.)

Maybe xterm -e ssh-add... 

Of course, gdm should start up an xterm containing a shell script
which starts smbsh which starts gnome-session if we really want
everything to work.  (Argh!  Can you tell this kind of thing has been
really annoying me recently?)
