Try:

export LDFLAGS=-l/usr/local/developmental/lib

and possibly

export CFLAGS=-I/usr/local/developmental/include

Helix Gnome is a binary distribution of plain old GNOME.  Nautilus is the
Gnome2.0 File Manager project from the other new Gnome-related company,
Easel.
