Hello,
When I use eth0 on my Redhat7.0 machine, either at the console or with X
running (with Gnome & SawFish) I have no obvious problems.
When I use eth1 (with eth0 off) at the console, everything is fine -
networking works, machine works.
When I use eth1 and get X running, after a few seconds, my machine hangs
- I can't kill the X server with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE nor can I switch to
an alternate console (the hard drive light does not blink during this
time). I have to do a hard reboot, and in the logs, the last thing I see
before the linux startup stuff is:
Nov 7 21:59:47 localhost gnome-name-server[4905]: starting
Nov 7 21:59:47 localhost gnome-name-server[4905]: name server starting
and thats it. I have repeatedly caused this to happen, and it always
crashes at the same point in the log - after starting the
gnome-name-server. I know the physical device eth1 is not causing the
problem because when I use it as eth0, everything is fine. By the way, I
am using DHCP (pumpd).
Does anyone know what is causing the problem or what I can do to track
it down?
Thanks!
Sharad.
