balsa 1.0 access to an LDAP server

I have problem accessing an ldap server.
Under netscape I defined

description: LDAP
LDAP server xxxx.pc.vvvvv.fr
Root server c=fr
port 389
max hits 1000
and I have radio buttons for
secure
login with password
---------------
under balsa, I have only 3 fields and 1 radio button
name
server
base name server
expand

I tried any combination of name and server and got always
error saying that I have to chech the base name.

I appreciate any help
