Xscreensavers kill login?

Hi all, I have a weird bug here....

Today I went rpm -e xscreensaver and rpm -e xscreensaver-gl

After doing this my partner experienced login problems on our Xterminal
(using LTSP).  So, being lazy tonight I did a telinit 3 and a telinit 5
in an atempt to fix the problem only to discover that I could not login
in X

It would go to start gnome then come back to the login screen.

After useing a vtty to re-install xscrensaver all worked fine again.

Just thought you would like to know...
