Re: gnome-wm not running

Ok a little more info on this subject. It appears that
sawfish is not able to register itself with the
session manager. I noticed that when sawfish does run,
gnome-session hangs waiting for it to finish
registering for about 30 seconds. So I changed my
gnome-session in the .xinitrc file to:

gnome-session --purge-delay=0

And sure enough the gnome-session will hang forever
waiting for sawfish to register itself. Any clues why
sawfish could be having trouble registering? And after
looking at .gnome/session right after I start gnome
for the first time I did notice that the gnome-wm was
never given a proper id. it still contained the
default id.( default2) Hrm ... this is frustrating.
By the by I am using sawfish .38. All gnome apps and
libs were compiled from source. I did find a temporary
work around. I made my .xinitrc look like this:

sawfish &
gnome-session

That seems to get a windows manager up and running and
doesnt apear to cause any problems. I can even
configure it from the gnome control center. Does
anyone know if this will cause any problems, crashes,
political strife both at home and abroad? I would
really like to have gnome-session take care of
starting the windows manager for me so I ask once
again if anyone knows anything I would love to hear
suggestions.

Thanks again
Rick Hansen
