Could well be that your card is not recognised I would advise to rerun the configration for X.
Depending on your distro there might be an Xconfigurator, otherwise X -configure may do the
trick. It would also be useful to know which version of X (3.x.x or 4.x.x) you are running since
if you have 3.3.x your new card may well not be supported...
