running gnome2

Hi
I have now compiled all of gnome2 - only problem is it wont run

I have it in /usr/local/gnome
path is /usr/local/gnome/bin:$PATH
LD_LIBRARYPATH is /usr/local/gnome/lib:$LD_LIBRARYPATH
GNOME_PATH=/usr/local/gnome
It starts up, gives an enormous terminal and panel crashes saying 
seg fault
it was saying this as well

cannot register with bonobo error 3
Also OAF is still running

after recompiling bonobo-activation this bit has gone

currently trying recompiling gnome-core to see if that makes any difference

Anyone any idea what I am missing
