Configure will correctly detect shadow passwords on a Slackware system
and enable them. I had filed a bug on this, the problem is with how
automake generates the Makefile.
In daemon/Makefile you will need to make sure $(LIBS) is the first
argument to the link command, so that the system's crypt() is used
instead of another one (MD5 vs DES or another encryption scheme).
Currently it is the last search path instead of the first.
