Gnome startup problems

Hi,

After having used Gnome 2 for a while, I also got the problem that when 
I start Gnome I only get the splash screen and nothing more.
I saw that this is already reported in the bugtracker, but there I 
couldn't find a solution or temporarily workaround for the problem.
Now my question is: Is there a workaround or simple fix (I prefer not 
having to compile gnome myself)?
