Tempting to do the *few* hours, but I think that it might be a little 
more then a few hours for someone like me with little knowlege of gnome 
programming or C.  I plan on trying to learn this summer (I'm in 
Australia) so I *might* be able to accomplish this sort of thing by next 
year :)
