Hi

i'm a linux newbie and just switched from red hat 9 to suse 9 and from kde
to gnome (on suse even!!).

anyway, i'm anal about my desktop look, layout etc and have a few questions
but i'll stick with a couple of big ones for now.

how do i resize icons on the desktop?? frankly they're too big (48x48) on a
1280x1024 resolution. i know you can right-click and select resize and do
this manually, however this would mean i would have to do this for every
icon on my desktop and indeed for any newly created ones. is there a way to
just say set all my desktop icons to 32x32 (or whatever) such that this
change is propagated across the screen??? i know this question has sort of
been asked before but the last one was some time ago and none (as far as i
can tell) have actually been answered. also, i would rather avoid having to
modify gnome source and recompile which was one solution for someone's icon
font size question - unless this is the only way to do it.

my other question is little shorter... basically nautilus crashes a little
more often than i'd like. give its close coupling with the desktop, i lose
that too and effectively have to reboot. i have read that you can
'decouple' nautilus from the desktop (???). what are the implications of
doing this and will i lose all control over those desktop settings that are
determined by nautilus settings?

i also have an issue with the splash screen not closing on logging on....
this can wait i guess.... (also an issue brought up by one other... not
really answered)...

i hope this isn't too long.
any suggestions would be most appreciated.
