SPARC Solaris GNOME 2.0 vs x3270?

While in the process of moving people from Sun's OpenWindows
or CDE to Sun's GNOME distribution, I've gotten a rather
strange bug report.

Numerous users report that after starting x3270, if they
try to 'resize' the window by grabing an application
edge with the mouse and dragging, the application
crashes with the error:

configuration does not fit on the X display

The weird thing is that I've made the same transition
as the others, and I do not see this problem - same
application binary, etc. When I grab the edge, the
application resizes physically and generates
a larger font.

Anyone else seen cases where an X application runs fine
under one desktop but fails under GNOME? Any common
things to check out?
