It is probably the mixer applet icon missing. The tutorial says to
ignore two warnings, one
of them probably the missing mixer icon.
I suggest talking to the icon theme manager.
Thanks for the response. Yes, I've played with it enough to determine
that's got to be the problem. I was wondering if there's a way to
provide an icon for applets outside of the theme itself. If there was a
directory where I could drop a gnome-volume-applet.png file or
something, I could fix this myself.
