Hey Ewan,
Thanks for the reply, I was able to figure out that
~/.config/menus/application.menu was missing. I have no idea how or if
it got removed or what but I was able to
copy /etc/gnome/2.22.0/xdg/menus/application.menu to
~/.config/menus/application.menu and now everything seems to work ok.
