What is the point / purpose / use-case? Why would it be better if it all
uses the same method?

Evolution sometimes makes use of mmap to reduce memory usage. You
propose they should all use the same method, without explaining why you
think it should be done. Perhaps all data could be put into a database,
but.. why?
