Thanks, that's trivial and that fixed it!
[It's sad that the msg states that one MUST install (sources) from CVS,
when it really means what you said. Hopefully, that error-msg could
get changed. But, I won't hold my breath.]
It's also sad that when I post to this list, I get an email saying that
I'm spamming and that I'm not allowed to post, yet my post(s)
are, in reality, getting thru. (SIGH.)
Trying to communicate in Gnome is a bit 'back in the darker ages'
in my view...you folks could benefit immensely if you had a 'forum'.
[I've never liked email-lists, and I guess the present behavior I'm
seeing is just another reason why.] Hopefully, this fix will be the
last help I'll need.
So, again, thanks for that, Zhang!

You need to install the 'gnome-common' package from you distribution's
repository. (Or compile and install it if you prefer)
The detail of the package can be different per the distribution you use,
e.g. for ubuntu, it's http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/gnome-common .
This is how it fails (in autogen.sh),

which means you have to install the program 'gnome-autogen.sh'. It's
usually /usr/bin/gnome-autogen.sh and comes from gnome-common package.
