gdmflexiserver/Xephyr keymap issues

When I “ssh -X” into a remote server and then “gdmflexiserver --xnest”
from my Mac, my keyboard doesn't work as expected (see XQuartz ticket
cited later for details).  I tried reporting this as a Mac/Xorg
implementation bug, but they are sending me here for assistance
(http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/ticket/428).  They say I need to
get Xephyr not to mess with the keymap, and you-all are the ones to
ask.  Any help much appreciated.
