compile gnome from cvs, so I can hack at the code, but I can't compile
gtk+. I downloaded the stable branch (1.2), and glib compiled and
installed fine, but the autogen of gtk+ can't find the macros
AM_PATH_PROG_WITH_TEST, AM_LC_MESSAGES and AM_PATH_GLIB.
You need libtool 1.4 and automake 1.4. I had to install these as the
only libtool and automake on the system to make it work, ie, I
couldn't get them installed in parallel with the old libtool and
automake.
