I would LOVE to see such a feature... I think gconf is able to do
shared configuration (as it is based on debconf's specification and
debconf can do it). It would be nice, also, if it was not gnome-dependent...
I would like to see apps such as dillo and sylpheed, which do not intend
to be "Gnome apps" taking advantage on this feature

are you planning to code something?
