Note that Matthias has already implemented this (though it could stand
more testing) at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154034 .
It hasn't been applied yet, but they did mark this as target 2.6.0,
meaning that we can probably expect it to be included in gtk+-2.6.
