How can I configure jhbuild to look in a particular location for
patches? (e.g. http://git.gnome.org/browse/jhbuild/tree/patches.)
JHBuild looks for patches in (this list is not exhaustive):
modulesets_dir/patches
modulesets_dir/../patches
PKGDATADIR/patches
SRCDIR/patches
May be try setting modulesets_dir in ~/.jhbuildrc?
What is the recommended method to build and install gnome on a system?
It seems that jhbuild is intended for a parallel implementation,
rather than installing to /usr or /bin [1].
It is recommended *not* to install JHBuild GNOME in /usr. Install
JHBuild GNOME to /opt/gnome. Then setup JHBuild GNOME to run as default
from the display manager [1] and your users will be none the wiser.
