Gah! So this seems to happen at a very weird time. I've had
people send me straces of this one, and it
happens nowhere that I'm doing dlopening or the likes. Also,
how the hell does stat suddenly manage not to be defined ?
it's in libc.

But let's keep the hunt up, send me an strace of this, plus
let me know what distro you're using.
