Simon,
Sorry to confuse things. The packages I had that fixed the problem you
are having are from gnome-pilot site not ximian.
http://www.eskil.org/gnome-pilot/download/RPMS/i386/
I removed them ximian ones by hand and with -e and then installed the new
ones.
