Well, I, along with some other's I've spoken to, Have the following problem:
Gpilot works fine up until you try to sync with an evolution conduit (except address book)
Upon syncing date book or to-do -- gpilot crashes.
Is this the known problem regarding kernel oopsing?
Other conduits (test, time, gnome-cal, gnome-card) work fine

The only problem I'm aware of like this is caused by kernel oopsing,
brought on by the usb serial driver. So, no it won't fix that.
