Try this. My configuration is almost the same as yours:
- make sure that the gpilotd is not running, if so, kill the process
- make sure that the pilot settings/pilot-control-app is not
running, if so, kill it
- hit the hotsync button on the treo (pilot)
- startup /usr/libexec/gpilotd in a terminal window under your user
ID - no need to do this as root (you should get to a final
gpilotd-Message indicating your Pilot ID, owner, etc.)
- evo ==> tools ==> pilot settings (this brings up the gui
pilot settings window - assuming you have it already configured and
conduits enabled)
- You should see a lot of messages indicating checking and syncing
up of calendar, tasks, etc. Memo's don't work.

gpilotd just seems to sit there dumbly watching the
/dev/usb/ttyUSB1 (which is what jpilot and malsync

The same thing happened to me recently, too. I haven't been able to
figure out what caused it either. Using RH8 with XD2, it *was* working
perfectly when I installed it originally, but something's changed though
I can't say what, or where.
