I think this should work. As root,
 lspci -v|grep -i ehci

If you see ehci then it's there. Here's what mine shows:
00:02.2 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 USB Controller (rev
a3) (prog-if 20 [EHCI])
  

I see:

00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-M) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 01) (prog-if 20 [EHCI])
